Alaska Supreme Court

Dewayne Tomal, Appellant and Cross-Appellee v. Jeannette Anderson, Appellee and Cross-Appellant.

August 31, 2018426 P.3d 915

Summary

The court clarified the rules governing property division when domestic partners continue living together after their marriage-like relationship ends. It affirmed the finding that the partnership ended in 2012, upheld most of the property distribution and the denial of post-separation expense contribution, but required correction of the classification of a truck and valuation of an excavator. It also held that the divorce exception to prevailing-party attorney fees may apply to an initial property division following the breakup of a long-term domestic partnership. The opinion contains no separate writings.
