Summary

The Court held that the police did not "interrogate" the suspect after he invoked his Miranda right to counsel because the officers' conversation was not express questioning nor the functional equivalent that they should have known was likely to elicit an incriminating response; therefore the Rhode Island Supreme Court's judgment was vacated and the case remanded.
